Ancient Marvels of Greece: Sightseeing Tour of Mycenae and Epidaurus

The journey will take us via the national highway to the Corinth Canal where you will take a short photo stop. The famous Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf.

Stunning landscapes accompany you all the way to Mycenae. The city Mycenae on the Peloponnese peninsula, once thought to exist only in ancient Greek legend and the epic poetry of Homer, is a must-see. The entrance to the ancient city of Mycenae is through the impressive Lion Gate, so named because of the two lions carved over the entrance.

Visit the archaeological site and the tomb of Agamemnon (optional stop for souvenirs). The fascinating remains of the palace and its Cyclopean walls, the gate of the lions and the treasury of Atreus will leave you a lasting impression.

After lunch, your next stop will be Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi. Nafplion is one of the prettiest cities in Greece. It boasts of a spectacular waterfront, small streets, historic buildings and elegant Venetian houses.

Afterwards, you will continue to Epidaurus and visit the Ancient Theatre, world famous for its outstanding acoustics. The theatre, which originally could accommodate about 2000 spectators, is still functional enough for plays to be presented.

Return to Athens by driving along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf.

At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the tour’s starting point in Athens.
